The long awaited event of the commissioning of the remodeled Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba Ibadan has come and gone, but the memory still linger on .
September 1st 2021, will forever be remembered in Oyo state due to the fact that the governor of the state , Seyi Makinde made history by giving his attention to put in more efforts to renovate the popular stadium which was built during the time of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo 40 years ago.
This great day witnessed the attendance of top personalities in Nigeria who came to grace the occasion in the likes of a former Vice -President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar , among others.
However, it was learnt that the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, were prevented from entrying the stadium to witness the occasion due to unspecified reasons. After the public embarrassment , the monarchs reportedly left the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in anger on Wednesday evening after security operatives deployed at the entrance of the newly remodeled stadium prevented them from going in.
It was learnt that the 82-year-old Alaafin and the 93-year-old Ibadan monarch were made to wait for almost 30 minutes as the security agents at the gate were said to have insisted that just one of the aides would be allowed to go in with each of the monarchs.
One of the people, who saw the scene, said there was pushing and shoving at the gate and the monarchs left the venue in anger.
The spokesman for the Olubadan, Chief Adeola Oloko, when contacted on the telephone, confirmed the bad treatment of the royal father to newsmen.
Responding to the inquiry sent to him Oloko said, “Very true despite having the entry requirements.”
Oloko said the monarch did not have anything against Governor Seyi Makinde, who he said, did a wonderful job but blamed the overzealous security agents for what he called lack of discretion.
